Effective Fundraising from Trusts and Foundations

Online Course

This course is for those who intend to pursue funding from Trusts and Foundations including individuals who already have some experience in approaching Trusts and Foundations for support.

The course will take the form of a series of 2 online sessions taking place once a week over 2 weeks with homework between each session.

Session 1: Monday 3 October, 10am – 1pm

Session 2: Monday 10 October, 10am – 1pm

During the 2 sessions we will use case studies, presentations and discussion to cover:

  • A recent survey of the Trust and Foundation giving trends in Scotland post – covid
  • The role of trust and foundation giving in your organisational fundraising strategy as well as in the arts, culture and heritage sectors
  • Getting ready for writing effective applications – what are the things that need to be in place before you start writing
  • What makes a good proposal for you and for the funder including the case for support – top tips for a persuasive and compelling read
  • A suggested template for an application for those funders without forms
  • Maintaining and developing relationships with Trusts and Foundations and an exit strategy that makes sense – The role of acknowledgement, thank you and beyond
  • Researching the criteria and guidelines


At the end of the course participants will:

  • Understand the role of Trusts and Foundations in providing income to your organisation
  • Have increased proposal writing skills and be able to present your organisation's work in a compelling light
  • Have practical templates and tips for approaching Trusts and Foundations in an effective way


Each participant will receive copies of the presentations and additional 'handouts' including research resources .

There will be 12 places on this course.


About the trainer:

Pam Judson has been working as a self-employed Consultant and Trainer for over 25 years. She works with management committees, volunteers and staff across the voluntary sector to strengthen their fundraising capacity, including strategic planning, governance for fundraising, proposal writing and research as well as developing membership and friends schemes and individual giving programmes. In addition, she has been a trustee for two Scottish grant making trusts and has assessed a wide range of grant applications for several funders including the recent emergency covid grants for the charity sector.

Cancellation policy:

Cancellations can be made free of charge up to 1 week before the event date with a full refund. After this date a 100% cancellation charge will apply. Substitutions (ie transferring your place to another person) for the course or event booked can be made free of charge at any time.

Arts & Business Scotland reserves the right to cancel any event or course two weeks prior to the event date. You will be entitled to a full refund or given the opportunity to transfer to an alternative date. However, we regret we cannot refund any travel or accommodation costs incurred.
